In an article on financing barriers for nature-based solutions (NBS) in Brazil, Valor Econômico highlights the Lab as a key initiative designing financial mechanisms to attract private investment into climate and biodiversity projects, particularly in emerging markets.
Amanda Brasil-Leigh, the Lab’s global manager, mentioned examples from the Lab’s portfolio, including Price Risk Facility, a parametric insurance project in India that protects farmers against price volatility with support from a donor-backed fund. “It’s a model that is still in an early stage, but it has been well received,” she added.
She also mentioned the Páramo Wildfire Resilience Facility, which seeks to conserve high-mountain ecosystems (páramos) that help filter water in Colombia, and the Restoration Insurance Service Company (RISCO), a mangrove restoration initiative in the Philippines that explored revenue-sharing models with insurers.
The piece positions the Lab as a pioneer in testing innovative financial models to de-risk investments in nature-based and resilience-focused projects worldwide.
