Meliquina Partners, a 2025 Lab alum, is preparing to begin construction of ANTU, an 18 MW solar project in Neuquén, Argentina, in 2027. ANTU helped pilot the community ownership model underpinning the Community Equity Opportunity Fund (CEOF), incubated by the Lab through its Latin America and the Caribbean program.
Developed in partnership with the Millaqueo Mapuche Community and Sustentar Energía Renovable, ANTU aims to demonstrate how Indigenous communities can participate directly in the development and ownership of renewable energy infrastructure.
According to Meliquina Partners, ANTU is the first utility-scale renewable energy project in Latin America to include an Indigenous community as both a development and equity partner.
“There’s a different way to develop projects, one that is more just and makes better business sense for everyone: communities can be true business partners and share the wealth where it’s created,” said Juan Dumas, co-founder of Meliquina Partners.
During Medellín Climate Week, Meliquina Partners premiered a short documentary telling the story of ANTU and the partnership behind the project.
Three years into development, the project has secured all required permits and priority dispatch status. The team is now finalizing its capital structure and offtake arrangements ahead of financial close.
CEOF seeks to reduce investment risks while enabling local communities to become equity owners in renewable energy infrastructure. It is designed to support solar and wind projects in Latin America.
